On the 28th of December the youth visit centre opening happened in the suburbs of Petrozavodsk (Luchevoe-1 place). The youth visit centre was established within the projects “Youth House Karelia”, which is implemented on the European Union funds. During half a year a two-storied house with all conveniences was build that will be used as all-the-year-round base for the seminars and other youth organizations activities holding. A big part of the building was accomplished by volunteers.
The mayor of Petrozavodsk Viktor Maslyakov took part in the opening. He thanked the European Union for the funding of the project “Youth House Karelia” and presented the letter of gratitude to the youth volunteers of the Youth Union “Doroga” and “Scout of Karelia” that made an important contribution to the visit centre building. The mayor also gave a special present to the visit centre - a big LCD television. The leader of the visit centre building, the director of the Children Youth Centre Sergey Vozdvizhenskiy, was presented with a breastplate “Honorary worker of general education”.

The project “Youth House Karelia” is implemented by Youth Departments of the Cities of Joensuu and Petrozavodsk together with the Union of children and youth organizations of Karelia and is aimed at youth ecological education development. The project is funded by the European Union. Project’s main activities are joint summer ecological camps of Karelian and Finnish youth organizations and also cultural actions that are aimed at the education of careful attitude to the environment among youth. Four Internet centers for youth unions in Petrozavodsk, Segezha and Sortavala will be opened on the funds of the project. There also will be opened a country visit-centre which will be an all-the-year-round base for carrying out youth ecological camps. The experience of youth ecological education will be covered on the web site in Russian, English and Finnish. Methodical materials will be published in several brochures.
According to the results of the content “City that is directed to the future” the project “Youth House Karelia” became the winner in the nomination “Year grant”.
